Search for "Free online classes". Also you can check few online magazine or newsletters in your area of interest to keep yourself updated with latest trends. Lots of information is available online for keeping yourself updated with latest ongoing in this world, just you need to spare some time regularly... which is indeed a toughest part ;-)

What home work to do before landing at UK for career

  1. Search for job for your career profile at top 3 popular web sites.

  2. Only if you are satisfied to see enough job, plan to apply for VISA.

  3. Once ready with VISA, register to top 5 job portals and start applying for jobs.

  4. Try to establish contact with UK job consultants.

  5. Make true friends (be ready to give and take). Consider their tips, suggestions, experiences...

  6. Once you start getting enough interviews, plan for travel date. Book tickets in bit advance.

  7. Make a list of docs (original and photocopy) that you need to carry.

  8. Brush-up on your skill that you have claimed in your resume.

  9. If require, attend trainings make your skills strong and hence your profile.

Checklist for person coming to UK first time for career opportunity

Here is what my understanding of what goes into my checklist for career in UK --

  1. Make a clear career objective. Make a note on what you have to tell to the interviewer, like about yourself, experience, strengths.

  2. Check out what all latest resources and information available that would help your career.

  3. Establish contact with like minded people, like who are also searching for job, accommodation, mentoring, helping others.

  4. Reserve funds to support yourself at least 2-3 months.

  5. Work on your presentation skills, communication skills. Get a formal suit to wear (matching tie, shirt, blazer and trousers).

  6. Best if you could Move to UK only if you have written job offer or contract.

  7. Get into a Low cost accommodation but still comfortable enough to live. Plan to share with your friends.

  8. Get a local cell phone number or contact number.

  9. Add these local personal details into your INTERNATIONAL format killer resume, i.e., strong profile make in popular format.

  10. Start publishing your resume to all important job portals, top 3 to 5 of them.

  11. Open a bank account.

  12. Apply for National Insurance number. This should be high priority as soon as you land into UK.

  13. Establish good network by attending local events of your person or career interest.

  14. Keep yourself into healthy habits like morning warm exercise, job search, study, entertainment, regular food, ...

  15. Keep yourself involved into some activities.

  16. Try to get a good mentor, who can guide you into correct direction.

  17. Mainly have patience and positive attitude :-)
